What Would You Do If You Lost An Income Stream

I’ve been banging my head on the desk for weeks. I lost (I mean O income) one entire income stream this month. What would you do?

Many – so many it’s hard to count – I’ve seen internet marketers (newbies) give up.  They can’t (or won’t really work at it) make a significant amount of money…. enough to make a huge difference in the family budget.

I shout from the mountain tops (Often) – Don’t put all your eggs in one basket! In other words – don’t count on ONE thing to make your “forever” income stream.

Here is my story:

Several years ago I wanted to have a “good” affiliate program for my “Painting Video Products”.  They sell consistently… but I thought if I could get a small sales army of like minded people to promote the video’s – we all would have a nice (larger) steady stream of income.

Setting up an affiliate program – that works well – and – is easy for me to figure out – is difficult. I’m not very “geeky” with code and such.

Several times over the last few years I’ve outsourced the project and it’s amazing… but I couldn’t find anyone who could “get it right”.  So…. a few months ago – I hunkered down and did it all myself.

In the meantime – I also had new sales letters written and sales pages designed that are very professional and look great!

Side Note – Looks great from an internet marketing stand point – does not always mean better sales.

Plus – at the same time – I was switching all the sales buttons from Paypal to Clickbank (as Clickbank is my choice for an affiliate system)

About 30 days ago – all these things came together and were put into place.  (Remember – I changed a bunch of things all at once).

And about 30 days ago – ALL sales stopped. I mean NOT ONE SALE!

Traffic was the same to all the sales pages. It was not a traffic problem.  About half of the traffic to these sales pages comes from direct traffic anyway – (links from blogs, articles and emails).

What?  What? Why? Oh – My – Goodness!

I’ve been working on this problem for days and days…. with out a solution.

Finally – I asked my business partner Logan – (Our business has nothing to do with my video business)… and he told me to take everything back to “when it was all working”.

Now – that may seem like an idea “I” should have had.  But my Blond was showing – and it never occurred to me.

I spent all day (yesterday) working on “taking it all back to square one” (a job easier said than done)…. and guess what?

I made a sale this morning.  Go figure.

The moral of this Lost An Income Stream Story:

  • Don’t delete old sales letters – save them on your hard-drive.
  • Don’t change a “bunch” of stuff all at the same time – make incremental changes so you “know” what doesn’t work.
  • Make sure you have Google Analytics code on every page… so you can see what is working and what is not.
  • Don’t – DON’T have just ONE income stream.
