Click here to see –>Day One of my “Working On The Road” Trip.
Got a bit of a late start today… that’s okay… we don’t have an exact ETA for Nebraska.
I’m about to freeze this morning – it feels like breathing Ice!
Also – we see this morning that the odometer is showing 666.6!
Is this a bad omen for today?
Finally – I’m getting to actually write this blog post – it’s now after dark. The sunshine has NOT worked in my favor today. I couldn’t see my computer screen no matter how I gyrated my legs and car seat.
Also – when the lighting was just right… the cell phone service for my (not really mine – borrowed) Verizon AirCard was at NO bars.
Then I get all set up and I’ve got good cell phone service and it’s dark out… so the sun is not a problem and my battery is now dying. I’ve tried several different plug-to-cigarette lighter thingies and they will NOT charge or run this big honking laptop.
I’m often at my wits end with this…. but I’ll get it figured out someday so it all works like it should.
That’s what working on the road is all about… trial and error with your equipment.
Anyway – I’ll write as long as I can and then finish up when we get to the “sleeping spot” in Nebraska.
Today:
- I’ve checked email and watched the latest Tiffany Dow vlogs… (which take a bit to get going if your cell service is on again off again… lol)
- I worked on more of my business plan for 2011 and shot a quick flip video of what’s in my two notebooks. (I’ll put that video up for you to see tomorrow)
- I came up with several new ideas yesterday and started to flesh them out today. It’s so quiet in the car I can really “think”
The reason it’s so quiet?
My hubby has his satellite radio hooked up to his ears – love those little headset earphones you can just keep in the car. Just like the ones for an iPod! He is in heaven listening to his talk/news radio for hours… and I’m loving the quiet.
When we get to something interesting on the road we start chatting about it and end up talking for about a 1/2 hour and then we go back to our own thing.
Can I retire in two places at once?
New Mexico is my favorite state. It’s a state for Indian art lovers and artists. I’ve wanted to move to Taos for years… until today. I’d love to live in Taos in the spring/summer… Not in the Winter! I have mentioned I loathe cold weather… ( I know I have at least twice already – Ha!).
So… the new plan is to live on the beach in Mexico for Winter and Taos in the Summer months…. Hey – A girl can dream!!
And no… we didn’t get to Taos this trip. If we had turned straight north from Santa Fe we would have been there in about 1 1/2 hours. One of my very good “girly” friends lives in Taos… we would not be leaving quickly. Hubby would have to drag me away kicking and screaming. I love it in Taos!
It was hard to drive right through the entire state and not stop somewhere!
Short Detour
We did take a short detour into Trinidad, Colorado. My son said it was worth taking a peak at and he was right.
I only got the nickle (15 min drive through town with hubby at the wheel and me snapping pictures where ever I could. 🙂
Nice park… but it looks cold out there!
Cool Architecture!
Love this house… not sure about the paint color choices. 🙂
Trinidad sits at the base of this great looking set of mountains (or hills depending on how you look at it).
Most of the trip – we saw a whole lot of nothing!
Stopped to eat (finally) at a gold old Cracker Barrel. It’s always a comfort to stop and eat (on the road) somewhere familiar.
Don’t get me wrong… I love to try new foods…. but not when I still have 5 or 6 hours in the car.
Tomorrow I have a nail appointment with my friend Fiona – I met her last Summer in Nebraska… and we’ve be Facebook friends ever sense. We will have a bit of girl time I’ll get a nice manicure.
Tomorrow night is the Basket Ball game! My son’s team won their last game on Thursday – so everyone is very excited.
I’ll be back tomorrow with an update and I hope to have pictures from the “game”!!!
Nitey Night…

Debra your trip is like a journey back in time for me. Also spent a brief while in Santa Fe, but if I lived anywhere Taos is it for me, too. I fell in love with the place.
I’m loving travelling with you. I just adore that BIG open country you have over there. We have it too, but I’ve seen more of it in your country.
It’s strange but I have always felt more aligned in Spirit to the American Indian way of life rather than the Australian Aboriginal way of life. And that comes from a Taffy (someone born in Wales, UK) lol.
Debra,
This is so much fun for me, (you letting me tag along on your trip), I can only imagine the fun you and your hubby are having.
I’ve never been on a road trip in the southwest, just flew into Phoenix, on my way to Scotsdale for a conference. Stayed at a beautiful motel, but didn’t get much time to enjoy it. 🙁
Maybe someday I’ll get to work while on a roadtrip to the Southwest and meet you in person.
Can’t wait til the next update.
Thanks
Hey Deb,
You need an inverter to plug into the Cig plug, then plug your home charger into the Laptop. You really should use a True Sign Wave rather than a Modified Sine Wave Inverter to be sure you do not harm the laptop. I know that folks have used (me included) the Modified Wave ones, but it really is like Russian Roulette. I have had numerous problems with them and finally purchased a True Sine Wave inverter.
Hi Debra,
It’s interesting for me to take a tour in a country where I have never been. Definitively update us one your trip so we can dream as we travel with you
