Thesis Theme Custom Header Graphic

by Debra Conrad

UPDATE: Thesis Theme now comes with an “easy button” for header graphics and favicons.

Thesis now comes with an easy Header and Favicon uploader built in!

If you don’t know what a Favicon is – it’s the little tiny image that shows up next to the url.

One of the best features is that you don’t have to “guess” at the size to make your header image… Thesis tells you:

<<<*>>><<<*>>><<<*>>>

Got a great question today:

Hi Debra--

I purchased the IPK package from your affiliate link. I also own Thesis.

I am very impressed with your Indiana Jones and Toy Story blogs.

You could save me lots of frustration if you could tell me how you put
your header jpgs into Thesis. I have not been able to find any
information on how it is done.

Thanks in advance for your valuable time.

Best to you,

Vanessa

So here is the “easy” way to add a custom header graphic to the Thesis Theme.

After you have created your own custom header graphic (this is mine)

Toy Story Bedroom

Step 1 – Upload the New Header Graphic

Step 2 – Grab The “Image” Url:

(copy and paste to a notepad doc)

Step 3: Give Thesis The Image Code (You must have the Thesis Open Hook plugin installed):

This is the code:

<a href=”http://toystorybedroom.com/”><img src=”http://debraconrad.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Toy-Story-Header.png” alt=”Toy Story Bedroom” /></a>

Insert the url of your website – then insert the image source url you saved – last insert the “alt tag” which should be your main keyword.

Click on “remove thesis default header” and save

May I ask what you use to make your headers?

Thanks!

Hi Bernita…

I use Snagit for headers on my micro niche websites.

I am building so many sites that it gets expensive to have custom graphics done… plus I want them NOW.

It’s so easy with Snagit and I can have a header done in less than 5 min.

Tiffany Dow uses a different approach for making her easy Header Graphics but with Snagit
I skip a bunch of steps that she uses.

I guess I should do a video showing how I do these easy header graphics.

I also use Snag it to create the call to action images which you can see in the sidebar on this site Dorm Room Chair

Where do I have to navigate to get to step 3?

Hi Andrea…

Thesis now has an “easy” upload for uploading a header graphic… I show where that is right at the very top of this article.

As for step 3 – that is found inside Theses Open Hook – a plugin used just for the Thesis them – and free!
