I’ve told this story in a variety of ways in the past, this is another version of my own Amazon Q4 Holiday Seasons past. I’m planning and preparing for the whirlwind days ahead, remembering all the right/wrong decisions I made over my last 3 Holiday Selling Seasons.
3 Seasons – 3 Entirely Different Outcomes
Year 1 Q4 – I thought I knew exactly what I was doing. I sourced the perfect toys and waited for the magic to happen. It never happened… FAIL.
Year 2 Q4 – I completely avoided Retail Arbitrage Toys and stuck with sourcing and selling toys/games from the thrifties. Success at a cost.
Year 3 Q4 – Success!
The short version of this story:
The first year I was cocky and confident… I bought toys and other gift type products to sell during the holidays. I overestimated my ability to forecast. I learned a hard lesson about competition driving prices down and the fact that you can’t really predict when/if Amazon will ever run out of stock.
Overall the season was profitable, but I made a pittance per hour and was ready to quit selling products on Amazon forever.
Of course, I pulled my self back together and went back to my roots. Thrifting For Profit has always been the way to find great products that sell for huge profit. I vowed to never EVER step foot into a retail store toy aisle again. In fact, just passing that section of the store made me nervous.
I spent months stocking up on toys, games, holiday decorations and other goodies from thrift stores. It was fun, fairly stress free and the profits were huge! You would think I would be very happy with that scenario and stick with it.
The profits are HUGE… but you it’s not scale-able. This means that IF I wanted to grow my business.
Sourcing products at thrift stores is fun and I love it. BUT – when you are ready to ramp up your business and income, you can find your self at a tipping point. You will need to decide you are fine with time/effort it takes to use the thrifting model OR you will want to start sourcing products you can buy in multiples.
Feeling like I had a handle on how Amazon really works, I started to dip my toes back into Retail Arbitrage. I am much better at it the second time around, I guess time was a great teacher.
I started to work on my online sourcing skills and wholesale sourcing worked it’s way into the mix as well.
Overall, I was very happy with the way the business was growing and moving along at a nice clip. Then it starts to get closer to 4th Quarter, and I know I’m going to need to fish or cut bait. Was I going to dip back into the mad rush business of Toys and other holiday related categories?
Jessica Larrew ~ Beth Maus To The Rescue
They announced a special guide right at the end of September 1013. It has an interesting name ” Why We Stay Away From Hot Toy Lists“. Okay… I know that Jessica is a huge seller of toys during the fourth quarter, what could she possible mean with that title?
As you may already know, I’m a huge fan of Jessica and the way she teaches. But, I actually had to be talked into getting this guide last year. Remember, the toy aisle made me very nervous and I wasn’t sure I was ready to venture back into the mess, chaos and screaming children.
Jessica assured me that if I just read the guide and studied it (as in Pay Attention) to what she and Beth taught – I just might be able to get over my fears.
I grabbed the guide and a cup of coffee and read it all the way through. Then I went back and read it again and one more time… making notes and thinking about what they were teaching and where I had gone horribly wrong in my first year.
I kinda felt armed and dangerous when I made the leap of faith and stepped back into a Toys R Us!
Well, I made mistakes. Sigh.
Instead of just browsing and using the tools at hand to research – I started to buy. I bought stuff that never EVER sold, no matter what price I lowered it to. Slap me silly.
I waited until it was TIME to buy. (This guide actually teaches you this) I waited until I knew WHAT to buy… and then I bought every one of the things on my BUY list I could find.
I traveled to other cities to source. I shipped like crazy to the Amazon FBA warehouses. Then, I learned when it was time to start Merchant Fulfilling those hot toys.
I Felt Like I Struck Gold!
I was so tired every single day… I dropped into bed for 5-6 hours and then bounced out the next morning to do it all again. I bought the right stuff – at the right time! Big Profits came so easy, it was amazing. Exhilarating! Adrenaline Rush.
I can’t wait for it to start this year again!
It hasn’t started yet. You aren’t to late. I promise.
Yes, I’m buying products that are profitable right now. I’m doing the same thing I do all year long, I’m just buying more of it.
BUT – the HOT – HOT stuff… the stuff that is going to make you giggle every time you walk into a store and find shelves of it… has not shown itself yet. Of course, it could be sitting right on the store shelves, but we won’t know what is going to be HOT for several more weeks.
Are You Ready For Q4?
Last year – I had a chat with Jessica about my experience with the season and how the guide she offered helped me. I took all the best parts of that chat and made a new recording for you.
What’s different this year?
Jessica and Beth have gone over the top this time!
Video Walking You Through This Years Hot Toy Lists
Not only do you get access to the guide that saved my sanity during the Holiday Frenzy… but they recorded over an hour long video training taking you thought this years hot toy list.
Hot Toy Spreadsheet
PLUS – (and this is a Game Changer) the spreadsheet they offer put me over the moon! I thought I would be spending days with the research, but they did it all for us.
The included spreadsheet has already been filled in with the “hot toy” items of 2014 from 3 major retailers. The spreadsheet has the current store price, amazon price, 3rd party price, amazon link and store link! All you need to do is keep track of the items to see the spikes.
The Guide I Used Last Year
This guide is not year specific – it’s training. Training that will help you make the right choices ~ this year and every year.
If you are ready to learn how to source toys for this years season – right now – I encourage you to check out this page:
Whatever you choose to sell this year… my wish is for you to have the best (most profitable) “happiest” time of the year,
