Note : I had to break this up into two articles… It’s easier for you to “consume” You can read the first part here Marketing Lessons
Let’s Look At Christine’s Site Again
A fresh look at Christine’s site with a different view point.
Christine clearly has a nice – chatty – easy to read – way of writing. Even though I know she is going through some ups and downs in her life (aren’t we all?) I can see how easy she finds writing this type of content. She is blogging more (more often than I’ve ever seen her blog) and she is free of the constraints – “What do I say? What do I sell?”
Take A LOOK At Your Sidebar
Does it fit your niche? Do you even know what your niche is?
Christine and I “both” agree that she needs to drop the WAHM “stuff”. She is Not an expert at WAHM. She is a Work At Home Mum… but clearly that’s not the market she should be “marketing”.
So… all this WAHM stuff should “Go” away.
And the bar at the top should change as well.
This space is good for your “About Page, Freebie Page, Contact Form and Product Recommendation Page”.
What in the world does “Archives” do for your site?
Archives are a nice feature for those that want to explore into your site and don’t know what they are “really” looking for… but you can change the widget easily to look like this:
Using keyword rich Category Links are the better way to go:
Let’s Talk About Keywords In Blog Titles
… and the idea of “shortening articles without pictures showing.
Under The Knife? What???
This blog article shares Christine’s anxiety over a canceled surgery and the “make lemons into lemon-aid” approach to making the best of the day.
Better title? Surgery Anxiety – My Op Shop Relief
Now – think about what you could “recommend” (as an affiliate) for Anxiety Relief.
And… it’s a good idea to “shorten” your blog posts – Great for SEO… but boring to look at on the main (home) page. Adding an image before the “break” is all that’s needed.
Let’s look at another blog article on Christine’s site:
As usual… this was a fun article to read!
Better Keyword Rich Title – “My Garden Australia Style”
It seems that Christine is quite the “expert” when it comes to Aussie Gardening? Is gardening in Australia different than in the states? I don’t know. Either way… she is growing some familiar vegges – Zucchini and Tomato plus a load of other “stuff” that I’d like to grow myself.
She could even have video of her gardening and how-to video etc.
Oh… and she shared a bit in this article about using some of the herbs for potpourri… how does she do that?
Could (should) she be linking to books and seeds and tools for Gardening? You Bet!
Instead of linking out to a website that is going to make “the money”…
Give the reader a great resource:
A detailed insight into the gardening year of Cloudehill; one of Australia’s most famous gardens.
Christine’s Other Creative Blog Posts
Christine wrote articles about boating (including dealing with anxiety), crafty stuff (including beading), photography (she is passionate about her camera which she calls her “arm extension”.
What in the world is this blog going to be about? What’s her focus?
Does Christine need a focus? Really???
I could be way off base – but I don’t think so.
For Christine to be successful – she needs to be allowed to go “unfocused” as far as a “niche topic” goes. She get’s stressed and anxious about what she is “supposed to blog about”… instead of going with what’s going on in her world.
Because she has really “ramped up” her blogging (due to my prodding to just get creative) and her blog is going back to it’s original “fun” to read – “I want to read what Christine is up to today” blog.
Christine is opening up a brand new door! She is going to be the Aussie Girls Best Friend Next Door.
How Is Christine Going To Become The Aussie Girls Best Friend Next Door?
Where is Christine? I’ve been harping on her to get a picture loaded into her header… we want to “see” Christine – not a purple flower. 😉
Christine uses Twitter – very well. She has a nice following – and it will keep growing. People love to hear from Christine.
Let’s get a nice “list” going and get subscribers that want to gobble up your content!
To “trade” for email addresses – you need a “freebie”! I know that you could have freebies on every subject you are interested in… but now we need a “main focus” – something your readers “need” from you.
What “pain point” do you always seem to hit and find a work around? Anxiety is the connecting theme I see. You have chatted about your own anxiety as well as your Partner’s and your girl Charlotte’s.
Of course – a ton of anxiety remedies are available online. LOL… but what are “your” anxiety remedies. What useful tips and helpful advice can you offer?
- What does photography do to help your stress?
- What does gardening do to help your anxiety?
- What stresses your girl and what have you figured out that helps?
- Why do you think “crafty projects” help anxiety?
Remember – you want to get “real” with your readers and get them to “know – like – and trust you”!
The Aussie (and other countries) Affiliate Workaround
Christine has her sites hosted on U.S. Servers at MomWebs.com (as do I – we both love Scott who has held our hands through some stressful moments and made them seem painless).
Hosting your websites with a U.S. hosting company – allows you to serve up adds from Amazon.com and about a million other affiliate programs. Remember – your site’s are “global”!
Amazon.com will just send you a check when you reach your threshold. Nice.
Let’s Get Clear On What Hasn’t Worked For Christine
- A WAHM Blog has not worked.
- Micro-niche affiliate blogs work a bit – but not to the extent that Christine had hoped.
- Sitting on her butt reading about all the different options she has.
- Not blogging at all.
- Not using her creativity to grow her business.
What has worked…
Listening to her inner fear voice and others who are not supportive – has worked really well at giving Christine a clear picture of What She Can’t Do.
My hope is that You! (not just Christine) have taken these marketing lessons to heart. I love to help you succeed in any way I can.
