Brainstorming An IM Niche Idea

by Debra Conrad

Alyssa AvantWhen I left off yesterday with Alyssa making a move from ghostwriter to IM Marketer.  Alyssa and I were on the verge of Brainstorming and IM niche idea.  The saga continues:

Alyssa -  I’m excited! And I can help!!!

So… we need to brainstorm a specific “area” that you will become the “go to gal” for all things related.  Give me your ideas (all of them) and I’ll help you choose.

Choosing your “niche” is the very first step in the process – it helps you (and me) have a clear plan.

Debra

I really want to help information marketers specifically coaches, authors and speakers.

RIght now I’m working on a new project called Website in a Week for information marketers

I provide them a website, opt in sales or squeeze page and autoresponder set up.

I use wordpress for the site, I use Aweber too.

Topic ideas -

  • teleseminars
  • information products
  • autoresponders
  • product creation
  • technical aspects of business
  • setting things up for business
  • technical virtual assistance

Any of these things work?

Alyssa

Hi Alyssa,
Can you become the “go to gal” for creating information products? Really basic stuff -  like how to create the best “looking” information products.

I have so many people on my list (and that’s just me) that are stuck right at that point. They can write the content or record the audio/video  but they don’t know what to “do” with it to get it ready to sell. How do they format a nice looking – easy to read – pdf? From scratch?

Debra

Yes ma’am I can totally do that.

Now we have a “focus” -

Next – Branding you and your niche. Something like “get your product ready to sell”

You are not the “niche girl” or the” idea girl” – you are the girl that will help them get the product ready to sell and off the hard-drive.

Give me your ideas for Branding

debra

Hi Debra,

Yes exactly!

With me doing this service based business of Website in a Week this will go hand in hand.  Once they create their info product I can help them format it and build a site for it!  WHOOT!

I’m excited this is just my kinda thing.

I already know of some DIY PLR on the topics we’re talking about, plus tons of programs, graphic designers and other places I can become an affiliate for.

So when you ask about branding are you talking my branding?

What’s the first step a domain name?

Hey Alyssa,

In branding… yes “your brand”… You can brand “YOU” like I have DebraConrad.com and I don’t have a “logo”.

Or you can brand a “keyword phrase” and get traffic from those that are looking for that specific help and don’t know who “you” are.

Or you can brand a new brand name.  Like – “The Get ‘er Done Girl”

Or things like – productalicious  and get a domain name productalicious.com (not that anyone could “spell” it) lol. Think more like “Titter” “Amazon” “Google” and how they have taken “non words” and made them household names.

I don’t know why… but I could never get to the “brand some weird name” for my business.

I did become “THAT Painter Lady” and have

And… I also became “THAT Public Domain Diva” and went back to DebraConrad.com so I could cover more topics.

Now – I also have http://publicdomaintreasuremap.com where I try to focus on topics only related to public domain content.

You can see that I try to stay with things people can remember and spell… and yet “Brand” the different parts of my business.

What do you think of how you want to brand this business.

And no you don’t decide on a domain name yet.

debra

I don’t want to use my name.com I’d rather do some keyword phrase.

Alyssa

These are ideas I just brainstormed:

  • before the product launch
  • quaility product creation
  • market ready product creation
  • make it ready product creation
  • make your poduct ready to launch
  • ho hum to faboulous products
  • before you publish

You will be covering topics related to all types of info products so keep the word ebook or video out of your branding.

Do you like any of them?

debra

Yes I really like the first three:

  • before the product launch
  • qualityproduct creation
  • market ready product creation

Alyssa

Before the product launch – brings to mind “product launch formula” – which can be good or bad depending on which side of the fence you sit.

Quality Product Creation – is a very targeted phrase… I like it because you are emphasising quality – which all newbies want to feel they have.  And yet it does not say that what you teach is product creation from the ground up.
qualityproductcreation.com is available… (make sure I spelled everything correctly – I am a horrible speller)

Then I thought a bit more and found Quality Info Product Creation – which is even better because it’s targeting “Info Produts” – qualityinfoproductcreation.com is available

The keyword phrase “info product creation” is searched (according to Google) 880 times a month with pretty low competition.

I think that the emphasis on Quality is brilliant if I don’t say so myself.

what cha think?

debra

Yes ! Quality is important to me.  I love qualityinfoproductcreation and the fact that the search is that great is awesome!

Should I purchase the domain?

Alyssa

Now – you purchase the domain. LOL!!!

Got it now what?

I find it’s easiest to set up the blog first and then start messing with “what I want in it – and where it should go” as I go along. I don’t can see the “flow” better -  don’t you?

You will need a great header graphic that is brandable. And this graphic will have  Quality Info Product Creation as the Big words and then a tag line…. something like:

  • “Don’t Sell Junk – Learn to create professional looking info products”
  • “Don’t Sell Yourself Short – blah blah blah”
  • “Do You Know What A Quality Info Product Looks Like?”

Once you have a tag line – then you can think about if you want a Logo.

I usually start working on the blog – and don’t worry about the header graphic until I’m ready to tell the world about the blog. That way I’m deep into the article writing and I have a real feel for the direction I think things will go.
Also… make a list of what you want to give away, what to sell, and what to write about. (send the list to me – so I can see the targeted areas and what I think you are missing).

You will eventually see a pattern and can start working on your blogging calendar.

Make sense?

debra

Ok so if I understand correctly set up a bare bones blog (WordPress) and start filling it with content.  At this point is the content just content or am I pointing them to products / services yet?

Then,  I need to make a list of things I’m going to write about (blog), things I’m going to give away, and things I”m going to sell (I’m assuming this means my own product creation, not the aff. links I’m promoting).

Do I have all this right?

I have heard before that there should be 50 pieces of content on a blog before you “launch it” share it with others? Should this be my goal?

I am weird, my favorite first step is making the blog pretty.  I know that’s not a good thing and sometimes can be costly.  Luckily I’ve started playing with graphics and can create myself a “Good enough” blog header to satisfy me for now.

Let me know your thoughts.  Thanks

Alyssa

Start filling the wp blog with content.  Find your voice for this niche… you know… write write write like you are writing to a friend – helping them with this problem.

Don’t worry about any products/services… we just want google to start indexing your content.

Products can be your own… but also you want to find all the products you love to use or ones that you think work best – that have affiliate programs.

50 pieces of content???  Nope… you can launch with a great site that actually can help people with about 10 articles.  Then you will have product reviews etc… All baby steps. :)

Don’t worry so much about “How much” content… as much as good content that is really helpful and solves the problem you are addressing in each article. (to a point)

Never – EVER – give it all away in one article for hevens sakes… you want to have something left to talk about … LOL

It’s the idea that you need to figure out the categories and sub categories that make sense… of course you can keep adding… but it’s good to have a plan.  I find it’s easier to “get” my plan once I get into the groove of writing the articles…

Your main topics (as I see it) would be under

  • Ebooks
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Physical Products (which take the three above and turn them into physical products instead of just downloads)

I make most of my own headers now… I’m a “good enough” gal myself. If (and when) you feel the need for something more professional – you can add it in.
Do you feel comfortable with this? I’m pumped – I want to share with the world – but will hold off until you are a bit further along.

Can you believe this process??? I hope you are finding it interesting and a bit of an education. The brainstorming process is not rocket science – it does take practice.

Recently  – two of my favorite marketers shared their own stories about moving from ghostwriting to IM marketing:

Tiffany Dow

Melissa Ingold

p.s. Next – we start to work on all the details of the new blog that will hold the info product creation “information”.
